Ode to Joy
'Ode to Joy' was one of my favourite songs I learnt when I was just starting to play guitar. It can be a bit complicated for beginners but practise makes perfect!
'Ode to Joy' was writen by Ludwig van Beethoven in 1824. It was a part of Ludwig's 9th Symphony. Beethoven's insperation for his Symphony came from a poem by Friedrich Schiller called 'Ode to Freedom' which was about 'celebrating the brotherhood and unity of all mankind'.

Smoke on the Water
'Smoke On the water' was one song the first songs I every learnt on guitar. It is easy for beginners to learn and sounds GREAT... once you've practised it!
'Smoke On the Water' was writen by the band 'Deep Purple' in Switzerland 1971. 'Deep Purple' were attending a Frank Zappa concert in the Montreux Casino concert hall when a flare went off in the ceiling and started a fire. The band escaped and watched the smoke from the building drift across a nearby lake. This is how they thought of the song title.
